Race Street Student Residence, Drexel University,
Philadelphia, PA

A winning design for student living

The first phase of Drexel University’s student housing expansion began with the Race Street Residences.  The 131,000 square foot, 12-story steel framed structure houses 486 students in 130 two-bedroom suites. The building features common rooms and reading lounges on each level, as well as centralized laundry and bike storage spaces on the first floor. The “L” shaped floor plan forms a central plaza for the building entrance.

The structure is steel frame with concrete plank decks, and the skin is a combination of curtainwall, masonry, and metal-clad panels. This project was delivered using Design/Build delivery system.

The project received the Construction Excellence Award in the category “Best Design Build Project” from the General Building Contractors Association (GBCA). The GBCA featured the residence hall on the cover of its industry publication Construction Today.
