Reimagining luxury

This project comprises the renovation and expansion of two existing hotels on a 581,000 sf resort complex built in the 1950s and the addition of a three-level conference center, a large glass lobby “cube” as well as a parking structure. The existing 9-story and 10-story cast-in-place concrete hotels combine to offer guests nearly 400 rooms. Both hotels are significantly restored, expanded and structurally upgraded to current seismic design code, including jacketing of existing shear walls and foundation strengthening. The two hotels are joined together by a new 30,000 sf glass lobby “cube” building with a virtually column-free space, save for the featured “V” columns that support the roof trusses and the seismic force resisting system. The “cube” is an open-air structure that allows the sea breeze of the nearby shore to flow through the building. The complex is served by a new conference center facility that includes a 14,000 sf ballroom, an 8,000 sf junior ballroom, kitchens, and long span monumental stairs traversing the floors. The roof is supported by structural steel trusses and “V” columns that mimic the same pattern as the lobby “cube”.
