Dramatic parking solution

The functional design of this ten-level, 539-space open precast parking garage consists of a double threaded helix with “jump” ramps at the end turning bays. The length of the site and the height of the garage determined this arrangement. A single threaded helix design would have resulted in too many turns to navigate to and from the top levels. The 17,340 sf of ground floor retail space protrudes out to the edge of the sidewalk while the mass of the garage is setback. The roof of the ground floor retail space is covered with a green roof. Entrances to the garage are located off of both 13th and Arch Streets. The glass backed elevators along Arch Street provide passive security for the parking patrons. The Arch Street façade is clad in tensioned, perforated fabric mesh panels that screen the parked cars from view while also providing sufficient free area to allow for the natural ventilation of the garage.
