Chestnut Street Parking Garage,
West Chester, PA
Efficient use of space
This eight-level 689-space open precast parking garage replaced an existing multi-story, cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete parking garage on the site. The design is contextual, taking cues from the adjacent historic urban fabric. The garage design incorporates similar materials, scale, rhythm and proportions of the neighboring building façades. The materials include decorative metal fencing, multiple colors of architectural precast with two kinds of thin brick. The top level of the parking garage contains a solar panel array that helps minimize utility costs. Other energy saving strategies include the use of energy efficient LED light fixtures and a light control system that turns off perimeter lights for daylight harvesting.
