One Theater Square Breaks Ground in Newark, New Jersey

The Harman Group is proud to announce that One Theater Square, a $94M 263-unit residential tower in Newark, New Jersey has celebrated its groundbreaking on November 14.

Once complete, the 22-story glass residential building will be the first upscale high-rise built in Newark in almost sixty years.

One Theater Square is the cornerstone of Newark’s downtown revitalization; the project promises to be a 24/7 urban destination that features the best in 21st century city living. The building’s design features a curved glass residential tower housing units ranging from 585 to 1,700 square feet and includes 24 affordable housing units. In addition, the complex offers 12,000 feet of ground floor retail space and an adjacent 285 space parking structure. Each aspect of the project was designed with the aesthetic and style of the neighborhood in mind.

The project was designed by BLT Architects and was jointly developed by New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) and Dranoff Properties making it a true private-public partnership. Additional contributions were provided by the state of New Jersey, the city of Newark, Prudential Financial and Fifth Third Bank.

The Harman Group is the structural engineer and parking consultant on the project, which is slated to open in summer 2018.

“One Theater Square highlights our expertise in urban revitalization, parking design, and innovation,” said Albert Meyer, the Senior Project Engineer for the project. “We are eager to start work with our project partners and contributors to continue the incredible transformation of Newark’s growing arts and cultural downtown.”

One Theater Square is part of a series of developments sponsored by NJPAC to spur commercial and residential development in downtown Newark. The new complex will be one of three new buildings supporting the nearby performing arts center.
