The Harman Group is pleased to announce that the firm’s President and Managing Principal, Kirk Harman, PE, SE, SECB, FACI, is a recipient of the American Institute of Steel Construction’s (AISC) Lifetime Achievement Award. The award honors individuals who have made a difference in the success of the fabricated structural steel industry.
With nearly 45 years of experience as a structural engineer, Kirk has led The Harman Group in its introduction of high-rise residential and hotel towers using structural steel. During this time, Kirk and the firm have completed visionary, award-winning projects that have advanced healthcare and education systems, government/office workplaces, multi-family living, entertainment venues, parking facilities, and more.
Kirk was recognized for his contributions to the AISC Code of Standard Practice, where he has served on the committee for 22 years. Kirk has chaired several other Task Groups, including the Task Group that integrated the use of BIM into the Code as well as task groups on camber, quality in structural steel and fast-track/alternative delivery methods. He has also served on numerous other task groups, including the recent group to coordinate the specification with the code relating to completeness of documents and alternative delivery methods.
Kirk’s passion for structural engineering is exemplified by his commitment to the industry, including his membership and participation in several organizations, including the American Society of Civil Engineers, the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations, the Delaware Valley Association of Structural Engineers, the Structural Engineers Association of Pennsylvania and the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, for which he serves as the Philadelphia Chapter President. Additionally, he has contributed articles to a variety of trade publications, taught graduate-level structural engineering courses at two universities and presented seminars at numerous conferences and other venues throughout his career. Kirk is a true leader and role model to his peers as well as the next generation of structural engineers.
The award will be presented at this year’s NASCC: The Steel Conference in Denver, March 23-25.
