Bridge, an innovative mixed use residential project in Philadelphia, was one of six winners at the 2018 Willard G. “Bill” Rouse III Awards for Excellence. The awards, given by Urban Land Institute Philadelphia, recognize superior development projects in Eastern and Central Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, and Delaware. The winners were selected by a national jury of experts for their innovation in planning and design, including adaptability to other communities, sustainability, economic success, overall community health, and social impact to address neighborhood revitalization goals. The jury recognized Bridge out of a record-breaking number of applicants for excellence in site design, mixed-use development and social impact.
The Harman Group provided structural engineering services for the 18-story, 180,000 square foot mixed-use residential building adjacent to the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. Developed by Brown Hill Development and designed by Gluck+, the building is the first in Philadelphia to incorporate a mixed income housing component. The building offers modern amenities including on-site car and bike parking, an outdoor roof deck, a fitness center, and an 8,000 square foot green roof. The project confronted a challenging but valuable rezoning exercise to create an active street presence with attention to synergistic, street-level neighborhood retail.
