Bridge, an innovative mixed use residential project adjacent to the Benjamin Franklin Bridge in Old City, Philadelphia, is a winner of a Design Award from the Society of American Registered Architects (SARA) New York Council. The award was presented at the 2018 Celebration of Architecture and Design Banquet on June 19, 2018.
The Harman Group provided structural engineering services for the 18-story, 180,000 square foot project designed by Gluck+ and developed by Brown Hill Development. Bridge is the first development in Philadelphia to incorporate a mixed income housing component and offers modern amenities to residents, including on-site car and bike parking, an outdoor roof deck, a fitness center, an 8,000 square foot green roof, and 14,000 square feet of active street-level retail. Due to the building’s unusual geometry, The Harman Group recommended a filigree cast in place concrete structure, which was one of several key recommendations that enabled the structural project to be delivered on time and within budget.
The much-lauded project has been the subject of numerous press articles and accolades. Earlier this month, Bridge was awarded the 2018 Willard “Bill” G. Rouse III Award for Excellence by Urban Land Institute Philadelphia for excellence in site design, mixed-use development and social impact. The project also received a Merit Award for Buildings $40-100 million from the Delaware Valley Association of Structural Engineers.
