On January 31st, the city of Hoboken, New Jersey celebrated the groundbreaking of a mixed-use development located at 700 Jackson Street.
The much-anticipated project will include a 14 story tower that includes market rate and affordable housing units, retail space, parking, and a 6,835-square foot gymnasium with a public park.
The Harman Group is providing structural engineering and parking planning and design service for 684,000-square foot mixed-use building. Once complete, the building will include 424 residential apartments including 42 units of affordable housing, 30,000-square feet of ground level retail space, a fitness center and gym, an outdoor pool and integral parking for 443 cars.
To combat the structural challenge of the residential tower overlapping with the parking levels below, The Harman Group’s team of engineers and parking experts worked collectively to design the optimal parking layout to allow for the maximum amount of parking while adhering to a cost-effective design.
The design of the park – which is in an area of Hoboken known as “the bathtub” due to its low-lying nature – presented its own unique challenges. To alleviate potential flooding, the Jackson Street park will utilize 450,000 gallons of underground stormwater detention and infiltration systems.
